The Beautiful Formula Collective is a group of international artists who produce and stage group works not only in the studio, but also as live painting performances in front of an audience. The Beautiful Formula Collective deals with painting and creates collective works, in a combination of spontaneity, improvisation and the logic of rhythm.

Steve Coleman is an American saxophone player, spontaneous composer, bandleader and music theorist. Since 1994 Steve has done a series of performance and educational residencies around the United States and in many other countries (Cuba, India, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Brazil, France) through his non-profit, M-Base Concepts, Inc. This non-profit also has a an online music community website; m-base.net, which promotes educational activities through various multimedia formats and interactive media events.

Kokayi the Grammy nominated artist, preeminent improvisational vocalist, producer, educator and CEO/Creative Director of Less Talk More Walk LLC. Pronounced “Ko-Kah-Yee” his name is taken from the Swahili word meaning “to summon the people”. Kokayi keeps busy on multiple fronts with several solo and side projects.

Alina Sokulska is an international dance artist, choreographer, performer, instructor and researcher. She has elaborated on her dance language through the inspiration and deep research and more than 12 years of practice of social dances, in a mix with contemporary dance techniques and movement research concepts.

Steve Coleman und Five Elements erkunden mit ihrem in Kürze erscheinenden Live-Auftritt im renommierten Village Vanguard in New York City, “Mdw Ntr”, ein neues Terrain in der Anwendung nicht-linearer Aufführungspraktiken in der Musik des MacArthur-Stipendiaten Steve Coleman. Mit seinem langjährigen Vorzeige-Ensemble Five Elements verwendet er spontane und vorkomponierte Module oder motivische Zellen, die in beliebiger Reihenfolge gespielt werden können und es jedem Musiker ermöglichen, spontan zu verschiedenen Abschnitten vor- oder zurückzuspringen – sogar zwischen Kompositionen – und so verschiedene Schichten der Musik hervorzuheben und die Form bei jeder Aufführung auf völlig interaktive Weise neu zu erfinden.
Die spontane und reflexartige Reaktion auf visuelle Bedingungen einer Komposition auf der Fläche ist
die wesentliche Struktur von The Beautiful Formula Collective. The Beautiful Formula Collective setzt sich mit der Malerei und der Schaffung kollektiver Werke auf der Grundlage der Kombination aus Spontaneität, Improvisation und der Logik des Rhythmus, die beim Anbringen von Farben Strukturen und Regeln gibt, auseinander. The Beautiful Formula Collective produziert und inszeniert Gruppenarbeiten nicht nur im Atelier, sondern auch als Live-Painting-Performance vor Publikum. The Beautiful Formula Collective hat Live-Painting-Performances an Kunsthochschulen, Galerien und Museen in München, Zürich, Istanbul, Teheran und London durchgeführt, um nur einige zu nennen.
Kompositionen mit konstanten rhythmischen Motiven werden von den Künstler*innen beider Disziplinen vor dem Publikum in variabler Form ausgeführt.

The Beautiful Formula Collective is only about painting and creating collective works based on the Beautiful Formula Language. The Beautiful Formula Collective was founded in 2012 by Oleksiy Koval, Stefan Schessl, Kuros Nekouian, Veronika Wenger, Daniel Geiger, Pascal Worsch. Since 2012, The Beautiful Formula Collective has realized live-painting-performances, workshops and seminars at art colleges, galleries and museums in Munich, Zurich, Singapore, Kyiv, Tehran and London to name a few.
