These titles seem to originate from an imagination unrelated to the visual imagery of the works, or is there a certain critical irony behind them?<\/p>\n<p>Veronika Wenger: The titles have a similar function to the dancer or person in my works. They give the drawings an apparent reference to reality, a form of narrative. The titles arise from various circumstances, sometimes as provocation, criticism, through form or color, but always in relation to things that surround me, literature or experiences. The titles arouse sensual feelings, e.g. Lipstick, Crostata, Apricot&#8230;With \u201cCherub\u201d (Little angel) the title can be viewed critically. It came to me through the form that appeared in the process of drawing, during a period of studying Hegel&#8217;s writings on religion. The titles create a connection between the lines and the drawing, between the words and the language.<\/p>\n<p>\u5468\u529b\uff1a\u4f60\u5982\u4f55\u4e3a\u4f5c\u54c1\u9009\u62e9\u6807\u9898\uff0c\u6bd4\u5982\u201c\u53e3\u7ea2\u201d\u548c\u201c\u5c0f\u5929\u4f7f\u201d\uff1f\u8fd9\u4e9b\u6807\u9898\u770b\u4e0a\u53bb\u6765\u81ea\u67d0\u79cd\u4e0e\u4f5c\u54c1\u89c6\u89c9\u610f\u8c61\u65e0\u5173\u7684\u60f3\u8c61\uff0c\u6216\u8005\u67d0\u79cd\u6279\u5224\u6027\u7684\u53cd\u8bbd\uff1f<\/p>\n<p>\u8587\u7f57\u59ae\u5361\u00b7\u6e29\u683c\uff1a\u6807\u9898\u5728\u6211\u7684\u4f5c\u54c1\u91cc\u5c31\u50cf\u662f\u4e00\u4f4d\u821e\u8005\u6216\u4e00\u4e2a\u4eba\u7269\u7684\u5f62\u8c61\u3002\u5b83\u4eec\u628a\u4f5c\u54c1\u548c\u73b0\u5b9e\u8054\u7cfb\u5728\u4e00\u8d77\uff0c\u662f\u4e00\u79cd\u53d9\u4e8b\u5f62\u5f0f\u3002\u5b83\u4eec\u65f6\u5e38\u4e0e\u6211\u5468\u56f4\u7684\u73b0\u5b9e\u73af\u5883\u6216\u4e8b\u4ef6\u6709\u5173\uff0c\u6216\u8005\u6e90\u81ea\u6211\u7684\u9605\u8bfb\u4e0e\u751f\u6d3b\uff0c\u662f\u4e00\u79cd\u4f34\u968f\u89c6\u89c9\u800c\u6765\u7684\u6311\u8845\u6216\u6279\u5224\u3002\u5b83\u4eec\u5f80\u5f80\u63d0\u4f9b\u611f\u5b98\u5185\u5bb9\uff0c\u6bd4\u5982\u201c\u53e3\u7ea2\u201c\uff1b\u800c\u50cf\u201d\u5c0f\u5929\u4f7f\u201c\u8fd9\u6837\u7684\u6807\u9898\uff0c\u5219\u662f\u4e00\u79cd\u6279\u5224\uff0c\u5b83\u662f\u6211\u5bf9\u7ed8\u753b\u8fc7\u7a0b\u7684\u4e00\u79cd\u5f62\u5bb9\uff0c\u6e90\u81ea\u9ed1\u683c\u5c14\u6709\u5173\u5b97\u6559\u7684\u5199\u4f5c\u3002\u603b\u4e4b\uff0c\u6807\u9898\u628a\u753b\u4e2d\u7684\u7ebf\u6761\u548c\u8bed\u8a00\u8054\u7cfb\u5728\u4e00\u8d77\u3002<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1526\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1526\" style=\"width: 628px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1526\" src=\"https:\/\/veronikawenger.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/lipstick_130x150.jpg\" alt=\"LipstickVeronika Wenger 2023 130 x 150 cm, spray, marker on synthetic fabric\" width=\"628\" height=\"550\" srcset=\"https:\/\/veronikawenger.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/lipstick_130x150.jpg 2517w, https:\/\/veronikawenger.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/lipstick_130x150-300x263.jpg 300w, https:\/\/veronikawenger.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/lipstick_130x150-1024x897.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/veronikawenger.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/lipstick_130x150-768x673.jpg 768w, https:\/\/veronikawenger.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/lipstick_130x150-1536x1346.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/veronikawenger.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/lipstick_130x150-2048x1794.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 628px) 100vw, 628px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1526\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Lipstick<\/em><br \/>Veronika Wenger 2023<br \/>130 x 150 cm, spray, marker on synthetic fabric<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>ZL: Your creations feature subtle material contrasts, such as tape, pencil, spray paint, and so on, but nowadays many of your works, in the form of images, appear on social media platforms like Instagram, where the texture of the original works is inevitably compressed. This is a challenge faced by almost all artists. Do you mind or regret such compression and loss of information?<\/p>\n<p>VW: I use Instagram (and my website) to provide an insight into my work and to make my drawings accessible. By focusing on the digital quality of the depiction of my work, I use the best possible quality of photography to display my drawings. I can only experience the materiality, the reality of the work in front of the original. Thus the image of the drawing appears here as an abstract message that the viewer can read in a similar way to a book or a text. In contrast to the viewer&#8217;s presence in front of the original work and material. Here the viewer has two possibilities to immerse himself in the work: in the abstraction of the drawing and in the connection with reality, the materiality of the line, paper, tape, spray, etc. On social media, the non-abstract reality is removed and transformed into a digital reality that I as a viewer cannot touch. As a viewer, I am not in the same room, I can only look through a window. So I do not regret such a condensation of information compression and I think it is no loss, it is like spoken language and written language.<\/p>\n<p>\u5468\u529b\uff1a\u4f60\u7684\u521b\u4f5c\u5305\u542b\u8bb8\u591a\u5fae\u5999\u7684\u6750\u8d28\u5bf9\u6bd4\uff0c\u6bd4\u5982\u80f6\u5e26\uff0c\u94c5\u7b14\uff0c\u55b7\u6f06\u7b49\u7b49\uff0c\u4f46\u5982\u4eca\u4f60\u7684\u8bb8\u591a\u4f5c\u54c1\uff0c\u4ee5\u56fe\u7247\u7684\u5f62\u5f0f\uff0c\u51fa\u73b0\u5728ins\u8fd9\u6837\u7684\u793e\u4ea4\u5a92\u4f53\u4e0a\uff0c\u90a3\u4e48\u539f\u4f5c\u7684\u8d28\u611f\u4e00\u5b9a\u4f1a\u88ab\u56fe\u7247\u538b\u7f29\u3002\u8fd9\u4e5f\u662f\u51e0\u4e4e\u6240\u6709\u827a\u672f\u5bb6\u90fd\u4f1a\u9762\u5bf9\u7684\u95ee\u9898\u3002\u4f60\u4f1a\u5728\u610f\u6216\u8005\u60cb\u60dc\u8fd9\u6837\u7684\u4fe1\u606f\u538b\u7f29\u548c\u635f\u5931\u5417\uff1f<\/p>\n<p>\u8587\u7f57\u59ae\u5361\uff1a\u6211\u4f1a\u5728\u81ea\u5df1\u7684Ins\u548c\u7f51\u7ad9\u4e0a\u5c55\u793a\u90e8\u5206\u4f5c\u54c1\uff0c\u8ba9\u66f4\u591a\u4eba\u770b\u89c1\u3002\u6211\u4f1a\u5c3d\u53ef\u80fd\u5229\u7528\u73b0\u6709\u7684\u6570\u7801\u6280\u672f\uff0c\u8ba9\u4f5c\u54c1\u7684\u7167\u7247\u8fd8\u539f\u4f5c\u54c1\u7684\u8d28\u611f\u3002\u4f46\u5bf9\u6211\u81ea\u5df1\u6765\u8bf4\uff0c\u6211\u5fc5\u987b\u5728\u539f\u4f5c\u9762\u524d\u624d\u80fd\u611f\u53d7\u5230\u4f5c\u54c1\u7684\u5168\u90e8\uff0c\u5c24\u5176\u662f\u5b83\u7684\u7269\u8d28\u5b58\u5728\u63d0\u4f9b\u7684\u7ecf\u9a8c\u3002\u4e8e\u662f\uff0c\u4f5c\u54c1\u7684\u56fe\u7247\u53d8\u6210\u4e86\u67d0\u79cd\u62bd\u8c61\u7684\u4fe1\u606f\uff0c\u5c31\u50cf\u8bfb\u8005\u901a\u8fc7\u6587\u5b57\u53bb\u7406\u89e3\u67d0\u79cd\u5185\u5bb9\u4e00\u6837\uff0c\u8fd9\u4e0e\u89c2\u770b\u539f\u4f5c\u662f\u5b8c\u5168\u4e0d\u540c\u7684\u3002\u53ef\u4ee5\u8bf4\uff0c\u89c2\u4f17\u6709\u4e24\u79cd\u529e\u6cd5\u6df1\u5165\u4f5c\u54c1\uff1a\u4e00\u79cd\u662f\u9605\u8bfb\u56fe\u7247\uff0c\u53d1\u73b0\u4f5c\u54c1\u7684\u8868\u8fbe\uff1b\u4e00\u79cd\u662f\u89c2\u770b\u539f\u4f5c\uff0c\u611f\u53d7\u771f\u5b9e\u7684\u7ebf\u6761\u8d28\u611f\uff0c\u7eb8\u5f20\uff0c\u80f6\u5e26\uff0c\u55b7\u7ed8\uff0c\u7b49\u7b49\u3002<br \/>\n\u5728\u793e\u4ea4\u5a92\u4f53\u4e0a\uff0c\u6240\u6709\u975e\u62bd\u8c61\u7684\u771f\u5b9e\u90fd\u88ab\u6539\u53d8\u4e86\uff0c\u53d8\u6210\u4e86\u67d0\u79cd\u6570\u7801\u7684\uff0c\u4e0d\u53ef\u89e6\u6478\u7684\u771f\u5b9e\uff0c\u5c31\u50cf\u901a\u8fc7\u4e00\u6247\u7a97\u770b\u5230\u7684\u623f\u95f4\u3002\u6211\u5e76\u4e0d\u4e3a\u8fd9\u6837\u7684\u4fe1\u606f\u538b\u7f29\u611f\u5230\u9057\u61be\uff0c\u56e0\u4e3a\u8fd9\u5e76\u4e0d\u662f\u4e00\u79cd\u635f\u5931\uff0c\u800c\u662f\u50cf\u53e3\u8bed\u548c\u4e66\u9762\u8bed\u8a00\u4e00\u6837\u4ea7\u751f\u5bf9\u7167\u3002<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1480\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1480\" style=\"width: 472px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1480\" src=\"https:\/\/veronikawenger.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/baerendreck120x100-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"B\u00e4rendreckVeronika Wenger 2022 120 x 100 cm, marker, tape, pencil on paper\" width=\"472\" height=\"550\" srcset=\"https:\/\/veronikawenger.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/baerendreck120x100-scaled.jpg 2198w, https:\/\/veronikawenger.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/baerendreck120x100-258x300.jpg 258w, https:\/\/veronikawenger.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/baerendreck120x100-879x1024.jpg 879w, https:\/\/veronikawenger.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/baerendreck120x100-768x894.jpg 768w, https:\/\/veronikawenger.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/baerendreck120x100-1319x1536.jpg 1319w, https:\/\/veronikawenger.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/baerendreck120x100-1759x2048.jpg 1759w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 472px) 100vw, 472px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1480\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>B\u00e4rendreck<\/em><br \/>Veronika Wenger 2022<br \/>120 x 100 cm, marker, tape, pencil on paper<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>ZL: The artwork titled &#8220;B\u00e4rendreck&#8221; (Liquorice\/Bear Scat), which uses black and white tones, seems to deliberately eliminate the olfactory sensations associated with licorice or bear dung. It appears to extract the deeper imagery of these two objects rather than their superficial phenomenon. So, what is the profound imagery?<\/p>\n<p>VW\uff1aAs with all drawings, I only add the title after the work has been completed. In the case of \u201cB\u00e4rendreck\u201d and \u201cKonfekt\u201d, the color, the materiality and also the resulting form play an essential role in the titles. \u201cB\u00e4rendreck\u201d is not easy to translate, Selima and I thought long and hard about whether we should translate it literally or use its High German meaning \u201cliquorice\u201d. B\u00e4rendreck is the southern Bavarian term for liquorice. It reminds me of my childhood and perfectly describes the taste and appearance of the \u201cB\u00e4rendreck\u201d offered to me as a child. As is often the case with dialects, it is a very figurative word that associates a situation: Bear and dirt: hence the colors black and white. The title \u201cB\u00e4rendreck\u201d enriches the drawing with the word Bear Scut depicted through language.<\/p>\n<p>\u5468\u529b\uff1a\u90a3\u5e45\u540d\u4e3a\u201c\u7518\u8349\/\u718a\u7caa\u201d\u7684\u4f5c\u54c1\uff0c\u7528\u4e86\u9ed1\u767d\u8272\u8c03\uff0c\u662f\u5426\u662f\u5728\u523b\u610f\u6d88\u9664\u7518\u8349\u6216\u718a\u7caa\u7684\u6c14\u5473\u611f\uff0c\u4f3c\u4e4e\u753b\u9762\u5728\u63d0\u53d6\u8fd9\u4e24\u79cd\u7269\u4f53\u7684\u6df1\u5c42\u610f\u8c61\uff0c\u800c\u4e0d\u662f\u8868\u8c61\uff0c\u90a3\u4e48\u6df1\u6c89\u7684\u610f\u8c61\u662f\u4ec0\u4e48\u5462\uff1f<\/p>\n<p>\u8587\u7f57\u59ae\u5361\uff1a\u6211\u90fd\u662f\u5728\u4e00\u5e45\u4f5c\u54c1\u5b8c\u6210\u540e\u624d\u7ed9\u5b83\u8d77\u540d\u5b57\u3002\u201c\u7518\u8349\/\u718a\u7caa\u201c\u90a3\u5e45\u4f5c\u54c1\uff0c\u662f\u4ee5\u5b83\u7684\u8272\u8c03\uff0c\u8d28\u611f\uff0c\u4ee5\u53ca\u4e24\u8005\u7684\u4ea4\u7ec7\u4e3a\u57fa\u7840\u7684\uff0c\u6807\u9898\u4e5f\u662f\u4e3a\u4e86\u5f3a\u8c03\u8fd9\u4e00\u70b9\u3002\u201cB\u00e4rendreck\u201d\u8fd9\u4e2a\u8bcd\u5e76\u4e0d\u597d\u7ffb\u8bd1\uff0c\u5b83\u5728\u5357\u5df4\u4f10\u5229\u4e9a\u5730\u533a\u662f\u201c\u7518\u8349\u201d\u7684\u610f\u601d\uff0c\u6211\u548c\u8d5b\u8389\u739b\uff08Selima\uff09\u60f3\u4e86\u5f88\u4e45\uff0c\u601d\u8003\u662f\u5426\u5e94\u8be5\u628a\u5b83\u7684\u5b57\u9762\u610f\u601d\u201c\u7518\u8349\u201d\u76f4\u8bd1\u4e3a\u6807\u51c6\u5fb7\u8bed\u3002\u8fd9\u4e2a\u540d\u5b57\u8ba9\u6211\u60f3\u8d77\u81ea\u5df1\u5c0f\u65f6\u5019\uff0c\u4ee5\u53ca\u8bb0\u5fc6\u4e2d\u90a3\u65f6\u5019\u7518\u8349\u7684\u5473\u9053\u548c\u6837\u5b50\u3002\u5728\u65b9\u8a00\u91cc\uff0c\u8fd9\u4e2a\u8bcd\u4e5f\u6709\u718a\u548c\u5b83\u7684\u7caa\u4fbf\u7684\u610f\u601d\uff0c\u5bf9\u5e94\u4e86\u9ed1\u767d\u7684\u8272\u5f69\u3002\u6700\u7ec8\u7684\u6807\u9898\u4fdd\u7559\u4e86\u8fd9\u4e24\u90e8\u5206\u610f\u601d\u3002<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1488\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1488\" style=\"width: 439px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1488\" src=\"https:\/\/veronikawenger.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/konfekt-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\u201cKonfekt\u201d Veronika Wenger 2022 120 x 100 cm, marker, tape, pencil on paper\" width=\"439\" height=\"550\" srcset=\"https:\/\/veronikawenger.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/konfekt-scaled.jpg 2043w, https:\/\/veronikawenger.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/konfekt-239x300.jpg 239w, https:\/\/veronikawenger.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/konfekt-817x1024.jpg 817w, https:\/\/veronikawenger.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/konfekt-768x962.jpg 768w, https:\/\/veronikawenger.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/konfekt-1226x1536.jpg 1226w, https:\/\/veronikawenger.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/konfekt-1634x2048.jpg 1634w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 439px) 100vw, 439px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1488\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Konfekt<\/em><br \/>Veronika Wenger 2022<br \/>120 x 100 cm, marker, tape, pencil on paper<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>ZL: What is the particular reason for the large empty areas in the composition of the artwork titled &#8220;Konfekt&#8221;?<\/p>\n<p>VW\uff1aThe composition \u201cKonfekt\u201d (Confectionery) was created during the work process. In this drawing, I have already struggled a lot with lines, color and material in a for me unusual corner, so that everything has already taken place in this corner and the resulting drawing, in my eyes, requires the remaining white surface to represent its essence. The title also refers to this: to the artificiality of a confectionery presented in a box; to the contrast between the white surface and the \u201ccolorful confectionery\u201d made of tape. How do you control your brush? Have you been particularly influenced by any artist?<\/p>\n<p>VW: To keep myself in line, I try to stick to the following approach:<\/p>\n<p>Grammar of drawing &#8211; Observation &#8211; connection of distinctions<\/p>\n<p>Composition &#8211; Sensation &#8211; Nature<\/p>\n<p>Formalities &#8211; Observation &#8211; Factuality<\/p>\n<p>If the drawing sinks too deeply into my observations or feelings, I often use color as a connecting element or as an opposing element to create closeness and distance at the same time. Color or an expressive brush-touch completes the drawing through its determination or saves the lines from depicting an idea\/image. \u201cPure drawing is an abstraction. Drawing and color are not distinct [\u2026].\u201d (C\u00e9zanne). There are no specific references to a particular artist.
